We work hand-in-hand with the Freedom Education Foundation, a local Tanzanian NGO, to support families in rural communities. Every project is developed in partnership with the communities we serve, ensuring local knowledge, culture, and priorities are at the heart of everything we do. PEOPLE, UNITED BY PURPOSE
Based in Newcastle, Australia, The Freedom Project TZ is proudly run entirely by volunteers. With no administration costs, the vast majority of every dollar raised goes directly towards supporting projects that create opportunities for individuals, families, and communities across Tanzania.
At the core of our work is a belief that lasting change comes from within. By investing in people, skills, and opportunity, we help communities build the confidence and capacity to shape their own futures.

OUR PROJECTS
EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
Education opens the door to opportunity. We provide school supplies, uniforms, and support with school and university fees, helping students overcome barriers and build brighter futures.
ESSENTIAL HEALTH SERVICES
Health begins with care. Through menstrual kits, birthing kits, and essential medical equipment, we help improve health, dignity, and wellbeing for women, children, and families across rural Tanzania.
WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT
Women are the backbone of thriving communities. Through training and income-generating opportunities, we help women build secure futures, that will benefit future generations.
HOUSING & DEVELOPMENT
We partner with rural villages to build strong, weather-resistant homes, and are working towards a community-owned brick-making business to create local income and support future projects.
FREEDOM TO STAY IN SCHOOL
For many girls in rural Tanzania, having their period can mean missing valuable days of school simply because they do not have access to safe menstrual products.
For the past eight years, The Freedom Project TZ has provided reusable menstrual kits and health education to girls across the Kilimanjaro region, helping them stay in school and manage their health with dignity.
Each kit is handmade locally by women in Kilimanjaro from sustainable, washable materials built to last 3–4 years. This creates jobs and skills for women while supporting girls’ education.
FREEDOM TO PURSUE A DREAM
Through our Scholarship Program, we support students from primary school through to university and vocational training, helping remove the barriers that stand in the way of education.
We have supported students to pursue careers in law, wildlife management, and accounting, while others have gained vocational skills and trained in professions such as hospitality and culinary arts.

FREEDOM TO EARN A LIVING
For women in rural Tanzania, a lack of capital and access to training can make it difficult to start or grow a business, limiting their ability to support themselves and their families.
Through our micro-business program, The Freedom Project TZ invests in women across the Kilimanjaro region, providing start-up funding, business training, and ongoing mentorship to help their enterprises succeed.
Women we support have launched businesses in areas such as sewing, farming, and food production, gaining not just an income but independence, confidence, and a sense of purpose.
